12 Charged In Medicare Fraud Scheme

Twelve people have been charged in a Medicare fraud and money laundering scheme that resulted in $95 million in false claims.

The Department of Justice said the group, which includes doctors and health care professionals, was indicted for their roles in separate fraud schemes in Brooklyn and Queens.

The indictment alleges they recruited Medicare beneficiaries to their clinic and offered them lunches and other perks in exchange for their Medicare numbers and then billed them for services that were never rendered.

The cases were brought as a part of the Medicare Fraud Strike Force, which aims to pursue those stealing from the Medicare program.
